Bioethanol or electric fireplace

Prices

We want to get the most important question out of the way first: How much does each fireplace cost? And to answer this we firstly want to clarify that investing in a modern fireplace that serves decorative purposes only is much cheaper that investing in an actual-wood burning fireplace or stove. Therefore, if you are planning to stick to a certain budget then these two models are the best choice for you. In general, you can expect a low three-digit amount but keep in mind that this amount can vary and increase, depending on size, shape, design and additional features. The price is usually calculated upon performance, flames and optics but it also always depends on the manufacturer. You may want to compare different providers before you make a final decision in order to meet your budget.

Another important factor to consider is the functionality of the potential fireplace. The ethanol fireplace works by filling the burner inside of the fireplace with ethanol and subsequently lighting it. We recommend bioethanol, that’s ethanol obtained from biodegradable waste, with an alcohol content on 96-97,5%. Many newer models have an automatic combustion chamber that can be switched on and off at the push of a button, which makes the usage much easier.

Whenever you want to refill your bio fireplace with the fuel, bioethanol, make sure that it has completely cooled off before you do so. The real flames are beautiful to look at and create a powerful, blazing light, but make sure that neither curtains nor other furnishings can get into the flames. If you follow all these points, you can use your bio fireplace without hesitation and enjoy the wonderful flames.

An electric fireplace simply needs a socket nearby, as soon as the fireplace is supplied with electricity, it can be switched on and the artificial flames can be enjoyed. The running costs are therefore concentrated on the power consumption, which can vary depending on the frequency of use. Basically, it can be said that the usage of an electric fireplace with 1000 watts costs about 30 cents an hour.

Warmth, flames and dangers

An electric fireplace generates artificial flames only. Depending on the fireplace model, these flames can differ in width, height, brightness, and colour. One example is the Opti-Myst technology, which uses water vapour to create authentic looking flames. The advantage of electric fireplaces is that they can be used in various locations and settings. All you will need is an electrical outlet and power. There is no danger of burns or explosions as there is no real fire, thus it is completely safe to use even around children and pets. An electric fireplace requires no maintenance or care.

In contrast, as mentioned above, a bio fireplace generates real flames by igniting the ethanol inside of the combustion chamber. If you are looking for an authentic fireplace, this one is for you. Keep in mind that ethanol fireplaces are not just decorative additions to the home. They can complement traditional heating systems by adding heat and thus will contribute to the warmth inside of the house and the desired cozy fireplace atmosphere. Since bio fireplaces do not require a chimney, as they do not give away smoke or ash, it is important that you regularly ventilate the room. You can simply crack a window to do so.
